The rules at a glance

When you need one
Whenever generative AI was used to generate, suggest, improve or correct any part of the work (for academic integrity transparency).
Prompts and outputs
Prompts go in the acknowledgement; students may be required to include drafts or longer lists of prompts with the submission, e.g. in an appendix or extra file (check with course coordinator).
Referencing
Outputs used as information should also be referenced per the library referencing guides (AGLC4, APA 7, Chicago A/B, MLA under 'Other sources'; Harvard under 'Email etc.'; JAMA/Vancouver under 'Personal Comm'). Include a shareable link where the tool supports one. Some materials such as images may need both a reference and a transparency statement.
Must include
  • tool name
  • access link (URL)
  • how the tool was used
  • prompt(s) used
  • any further use, edits or changes made to the output
Also note
  • Check AI-provided summaries for accuracy and reference the original source rather than the AI summary where possible
