University of Canberra AI acknowledgement
UC requires a set-wording GenAI Acknowledgement Statement in every submission: you either declare you used no GenAI, or list each tool's name and version, link and how you used it, then confirm nothing else was used and that any GenAI content is cited. A Word template is provided by the Library.

University of Canberra's own wording
"I have used the following GenAI tools/services in the preparation of this assessment:" followed by fields for service name and version, link, and ways it was used; then a confirmation that GenAI was not used for any other purpose, all GenAI content is cited and referenced, and that false or misleading information may breach the Student Conduct Rules 2023. An MS Word student template is downloadable.
Summarised from University of Canberra's guidance. The generator below fills this format in for you.
The rules at a glance
- When you need one
- In every assessment submission: students must select either the 'have not used' or 'have used' version of the statement. Any GenAI use, including Editor and Copilot in Word, must be acknowledged and referenced.
- Framework
- UC GenAI assessment categories: Permitted / Guided / Restricted (Studiosity Writing Feedback Plus allowed in all categories)
- Where it goes
- In your submission, after the reference list or in another location specified in the assessment instructions.
- Prompts and outputs
- Be prepared to produce records of your research and assessment drafts and answer questions in a Learning Validation Conversation; document how you used the tool. Your Unit Convener may require additional detail about your GenAI use. In APA, provide the prompt at the point in the text where AI output is used.
- Referencing
- UC follows each style's AI guidance where it exists, otherwise treats AI output as a nonrecoverable source / personal communication. APA 7: describe use in the method or introduction; reference "OpenAI. (2023). ChatGPT (Mar 14 version)[Large language model]. https://chat.openai.com/chat", in-text (OpenAI, 2023). AGLC4 (written correspondence, rule 7.12): "4 Paragraph for request 'provide a short introduction to the Australian legal system' from ChatGPT to author, 9:30am, 19 January 2023." Chicago notes: "2. Text generated by ChatGPT, OpenAI, January 19, 2023, http://chat.openai.com/chat". Harvard (personal communication, in-text only): (ChatGPT paragraph, request '...', 9:30am, 19 January 2023). AI images: note the tool and prompt with the figure.
- Must include
- GenAI service name and version
- link to the GenAI service
- ways the GenAI service was used
- confirmation that GenAI was not used for any other purpose and that any GenAI content is cited and referenced in the relevant style
- acknowledgement that false or misleading information may breach the University of Canberra (Student Conduct) Rules 2023
- Also note
- Restricted assessments forbid GenAI; Editor and Copilot in Word count as GenAI and should not be used there
- use GenAI only if permitted by the unit convener or supervisor and only in the ways allowed in the assessment instructions and unit outline
- submitting GenAI-produced work as your own may be academic misconduct
- do not submit work to free GenAI detection sites
- a Turnitin AI writing score may be used as evidence (not the sole evidence) for a misconduct referral and may trigger a Learning Validation Conversation
- quotes from GenAI output must be in quotation marks; critically evaluate output
If you didn't use AI
I have not used any Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools/services in the preparation of this assessment. I understand that providing false or misleading information in the GenAI Acknowledgement Statement may constitute a breach of the University of Canberra (Student Conduct) Rules 2023.
