The rules at a glance

When you need one
Whenever genAI is used in an assessment task where it is permitted by unit teaching staff.
Where it goes
Prompts and outputs go in an appendix to the final submission; no placement given for the acknowledgement itself
Prompts and outputs
Required: include as an appendix a list of all genAI prompts and outputs whenever genAI is used in a permitted task.
Referencing
AI use must be referenced according to university referencing conventions, using the style your school or unit uses (e.g. APA for psychology and business). No AI-specific example format given.
Must include
  • name of the AI source
  • date the AI was accessed
  • list of all genAI prompts and outputs (appendix)
Also note
  • Do not use genAI if it is not permitted
  • Submitting AI-produced work without permission or Swinburne-approved acknowledgement counts as third-party (contract-cheating style) misconduct
  • AI-generated content must be transparently labelled and comply with IP and academic integrity rules
  • Use AI in line with the Data Classification and Privacy Frameworks
  • AI may assist but not be the sole authority in critical decisions like grading
