ANU lets each course convener decide whether generative AI is allowed; where it is, students must reference AI content like any other source and acknowledge which tools they used and how they contributed to the assignment.

The rules at a glance

When you need one
Whenever generative AI is used in developing an assignment or AI-produced content appears in it (only where the course permits AI).
Prompts and outputs
Not required generally; the AGLC example notes the prompt detail can be put in an appendix.
Referencing
Cite AI as you would any source, per the Generative AI LibGuide. APA: in-text (OpenAI, 2023); reference: OpenAI. (2023). ChatGPT (Mar 14 version) [Large language model]. https://chat.openai.com/chat. Must include
  • the specific tools or methods used
  • how they contributed to completing the assignment
Also note
  • Do not use AI where the class summary or course convener says it is not allowed
  • Do not present AI-produced material as your own work or use it in place of your own research and writing
  • Verify all AI output and any references it provides
  • Do not enter personal information or unpublished research into AI tools
  • Turnitin's AI writing detection tool is not used at ANU to pursue academic integrity matters
  • Copilot Enterprise (ANU login) is the endorsed tool
