Massey University AI acknowledgement
Massey sets a level of permitted AI use for each assessment under its AI Use Framework. Whenever students use AI they must keep records, reference it, and submit an appendix recording every tool and prompt, the AI output, and where and how it was used and changed.

Massey University doesn't publish a fixed template, so this uses a general format that covers what it asks for.
The rules at a glance
- When you need one
- Whenever you use AI tools or any AI-generated output in an assessment.
- Framework
- Massey AI Use Framework (AIAS levels): No AI / AI planning / AI collaboration / AI exploration.
- Where it goes
- An appendix submitted with the assessment.
- Prompts and outputs
- Required: the appendix must contain a full record of all prompts and the AI-generated content. Students may also be asked to show drafts, notes and reading summaries if AI over-reliance is suspected.
- Referencing
- AI must be referenced appropriately; Massey points to APA Style guidance on citing information from an AI platform. No example format given on the page.
- Must include
- all AI tools used
- all prompts used
- the AI-generated content
- where and how that content was used and modified in the assignment
- Also note
- no AI in secured assessments such as practicals, invigilated tests and exams
- never use AI where the assessment says not to
- copying AI text into an assessment is plagiarism; fabricated data is misconduct
- do not enter personal, copyrighted, commercially or research-sensitive, or NDA information into AI tools
- fact-check content and verify all AI-produced references
