ACM's authorship policy allows authors to use generative AI to create content, but the use must be fully disclosed in the paper, normally in the Acknowledgements section; when unsure, authors should disclose.

The rules at a glance
- When you need one
- Whenever generative AI tools are used to create content in the work (e.g. text, tables, graphs, code, data, citations); if unsure whether a tool needs disclosing, disclose it.
- Where it goes
- Acknowledgements section of the paper.
- Must include
- tool name
- which parts or types of content it generated (text, tables, graphs, code, data, citations, etc.)
- Also note
- If copyrighted works are used as input to or training data for an LLM, explicit permission from the copyright holders is required and must be disclosed in the acknowledgements
- Reviewers may not upload submissions or author information to LLMs or other third-party tools that do not guarantee confidentiality
- Reviewers may not use generative AI to write reviews, though writing helpers may polish their wording
- Program committee members may not use generative AI to synthesise reviews into a metareview, only to improve its writing or structure
